The Problem:

A student is making cupcakes. They mix all of the ingredients and find the mass of the batter is 267 grams. They bake the batter in an oven and find the mass of the baked cupcakes is  247 grams.

They hypothesize the cupcakes lost mass is because water in the batter evaporated in the oven during baking.

1) Find the percentage of mass lost during baking.

2) Does this mean baking cupcakes violates the law of conservation of mass?  Explain.

Collect Homework:
