HOMEWORK:

Readworks Vortex is due Thursday.

  • cite text evidence to support your answer for all three open response questions

THE OUTLINE IS DUE AS OF LAST NIGHT

  • IF YOU ARE NOT FINISHED, THIS IS AN IMMEDIATE PRIORITY

  • FINISH YOUR SUMMARY OUTLINE ASAP.

DO NOW.

LESSON:

PROGRESS CHECK

  • SEE COMMENTS IN OUTLINE DOCUMENT

  • NO COMMENT MEAnS YOU ARE GOOD TO GO!

  • YOU HAVE BEEN GRADED IN ALIGNMENT WITH THE PROGRESS YOU COMPLETED.

TODAY:

  1. Write the summary

  2. The summary is located in Google Classroom: “Beverage Container research Summary”

    • Write a descriptive summary of what you learned.

    • Organize by the research questions (topics) you outlined.

    • use an impersonal voice where possible or first person when needed.

This is descriptive writing - summarize what you learned.

    • Try to make generalizations with occasional examples.

    • use in-text citation for all examples

  3. After the summary, write a paragraph that concludes. This paragraph should identify what qualities make a successful cup design (based on the research).

Exemplar:

Five different containers were researched in order to get a better idea of the types of solutions to this problem that have already been made. These containers included the Yeti Rambler, the Hydro Flask, the Fun Cup 20, the Go-Mug, and the Armageddon Cup 200.

These containers use two different types of strategies to keep liquid warm. The yeti Rambler and Hydro flask are both stainless steel vacuum bottles. This reduces conduction and they claim to keep beverages warm for a very long time. The other three containers were made out of plastic and included some kind of insulation in their construction.

Durability is related to the construction of these containers. The stainless steel containers are very strong and can handle a good deal of damage. The plastic containers also are reasonably strong but are more likely to break. The flip side of this is that the steel containers are heavier and the plastic lighter. This might make plastic easier to carry.

All of the containers had lids with the exception of the Fun Cup 20. Lids reduced convection and this is a strategy that helps to prevent spelling and keep the beverage warm for a longer period of time.

Finally, all of the containers included strategies to make them more appealing to consumers. Some were offered in multiple colors (Yeti) while others included interesting designs (Fun Cup 20). The most interesting container was probably the Armageddon Cup 200 which featured a picture of the zombie apocalypse on the outside.

In conclusion, all of the cups were durable, and reusable. Even though stainless steel is much stronger than plastics. many cups use plastic. Both materials are easy to clean and strong enough for most use. Furthermore, all cups featured a lid to prevent spilling and keep in heat. Finally, all cup manufacturers used color, shape, or designs to make their product stand out and appeal to buyers.
