Review the POWER POINT on How Hot air Balloons fly

  • Take notes on this in your science notebook

When done, see me to build a working model.

Fold four 20 x 30 sheets of tissue paper lengthwise. Mark cut lines as shown. Make sure one cut line goes all the way to the fold and the other does not.

Tape the straight edges together at the middle of the sheet.

Fold the fourth edge back to the first edge and tape these together. BE SURE to not accidentally tape the tissue paper to sheets underneath these edges.

Here, it is complete.

Now start taping the top edges together (the ones that come to a point at the fold you made in step one).

It is best to tape the top edges on opposite sides of the balloon first.

It is best to tape the top edges on opposite sides of the balloon first.

The hardest part is taping the last two edges to seal up the top of the balloon. Its best to lay them flat on a table while putting on the tape.

Finally, tape the bottom of the balloon together just like you did on the top. The only difference is the bottom remains open like this - so we can force hot air inside!

Building Electromagnets:

Design two experiments:

  1. Identify the experimental question

  2. what are the independent and dependent variables.

  3. What are your controls/control variables

  4. Describe your methodology

  5. Be sure to identify what and how you will measure a result.

  6. Create a suitable data table for organizing results

  7. gain approval

  8. go to work.
