  1. Displacement - measuring the change in water volume to find the volume of an object submerged in it

    • used for irregularly shaped objects

  2. select a graduated cylinder large enough to fit the object

    • a beaker is a second best option

  3. fill the graduated cylinder with enough water to cover the object

  4. carefully record the volume of water

    • Vi - Initial Volume (initial means beginning)

  5. Place the object in the G.C. and submerge it

    • characteristics of matter that can be observed or measured without changing the identity of the matter

  2. STATES OF MATTER

    • solid, liquid, gas

    • particle arrangement and motion varies with temperature

  3. SIZE DEPENDENT PROPERTIES

    • PROPERTIES THAT VARY WITH THE AMOUNT OR SIZE OF A SAMPLE

      • mass – the amount of matter in an object

      • volume – the amount of space occupied by an object

      • length, width, circumference, etc. – the distance between two points

  1.  Start with a fresh page in your notebooks.

  3.  Make a data table with 76 columns and 9 rows.  Make each row at least 2 lines tall and the six columns equally wide.
